| | tired | ] | Some people make me wonder. I was at a yard sale this morning, looking through a stack of vintage ladies handkerchiefs. The woman on the other side of the table was looking at a stack of cloth diapers in various sizes. I'm admiring a particularly nice batiste hanky with some very intricate drawnwork in the corner and Woman says, "Are those used?" (If you're hearing the tone of voice that goes with 'have you got dog poo on your shoe?' you're close.)
Me-"Well, yes, they're vintage, so I imagine they have been."
"That's just gross. I mean, someone blew their nose on that!" Mind, she's saying this as she's holding up a cute-with-firetrucks handmade cloth diaper. Given the size of the boy child running around in the driveway, I'm gonna take a guess that that diaper had been his.
Me, holding one up, "Well, they've obviously been washed. Look at this one-it's so starched it won't unfold."
"Yeah, but...nasty. Someone's germy snot was all over that." She then adds another diaper to the stack she's building.
"Ok, maybe so, but how is that different from the diapers you're looking at?"
"Oh, well, these have been bleached!"
*facepalm* *sigh*
On the plus side, score! I got a stack of what turned out to be 51 vintage ladies hankies, mostly in really good condition, for $5. It's been a really good couple of weekends for yard sale-ing. It's like that though-sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't. |

I fucking love cosplay. Even if only three people recognized me all day. Gankutsuou is not popular at this con.
IT IS PEPPO FROM GANKUTSUOU FOR ANYONE WHO DOESN'T KNOW.
You get a narrow picture so as not to fuck up your flists.

I did the sewing (without a pattern, bawww) and accessory hunting myself, but major thank yous go out to: apology for helping me fit the dress and dye the wig. biztheinsane for making the stencils for the skulls. yzak, moebot, and levade for helping me paint the skulls. And to everyone in my hotel room who put up with my staying up ridiculously late finishing the painting.
( so yeah, it turned out nice )
Full picture post will come tomorrow, after I have my photoshoot with Shinkurou. |

OH MY GOD I ALMOST KILLED MY COMPUTER.
See, nobody but me and Unamaga can get on our network for some reason I can't figure out. Not even my iphone. I've tried restarting the modem and the router and no joy. So I wanted to check the software for the router to figure out what's going on, except there *is* no software on my computer for some very bizarre reason. And so I started playing with the disc.
AND THEN THE INTERNET STOPPED. AND DIDN'T COME BACK. AND I TRIED VERY VERY HARD NOT TO CRY BECAUSE INTERNETS.
Thank god for system restore.
Eta - also, I went to show chopchica (we has one! she's awesome!!) where the plates are and I completely and utterly forgot and probably looked immensely amusing, but the laughter that followed, because I didn't know where my own plates are.
Dear weekend: YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO SUCK. |

| | full | ] | It's what's for dinner!
I think--I'm pretty sure--it's left over Hungarian goulash, but when frozen, goulash, barbecue, and meat-based spaghetti sauce all look pretty similar, and don't smell like anything, either.
If it's not, we're having barbecue with noodles. *g*
eta: It's goulash. And from the really spicy batch where we ran out of the regular paprika and ended up using a hefty amount of the spicy stuff. TG for sour cream! |

| MemcacheD Update |
[Jul. 16th, 2009|02:17 pm] |
Just wanted to let everyone know, that a new version of MemcacheD has been released. We will be rolling this out to the memcache nodes during the week of July 20th to 24th. This should have very little impact on the stability of the website; however users may see a slight increase in load times as the cache is re-populated with entries.
The software has been tested and verified to be working just fine with the application; so we perceive this to be a very minimal risk in regards to updating, and the stability of the website.
Thanks...

I was feeling crappy already--I may be coming down with something in addition to my usual stuff--so today being a very bright and usual New York City summer hot was more than I could deal with and I didn't spend much time outside. However, I did get a few Manhattan shots.
Chanel store rearranged their windows a bit. I tried to take a better photo of the Matryoshka doll purse, but the flash continues to be a problem. Here's the purse again, this time near a shoe with a crazy heel. This year seems to have a trend of highly decorative heels. ( photo )
Bergdorf Goodman still has the American Visionary Art Museum displays up, so I just took some close-ups this time. They're here. |

unamaga made milk bread rolls today and brought home a whole bag of them. She is now baking chocolate cupcakes that I am not allowed to eat until she frosts them, tomorrow. Also they're for someone else so I probably shouldn't eat them at all.
I do not have enough willpower oh my god.
Let us repeat the mantra: starch is bad. Gluten is bad. You should not have it. Not even when it smells like this.
Stalking the stove is bad, right? |

[Jul. 14th, 2009|06:23 pm] |
Our house listing lapsed last week and relisted yesterday; that should float it to the top of realtor's hot sheets as a new listing. M even came out and took a bunch of new pictures, and a video that should be up tomorrow.
Anyway, it's officially relisted. And just now there was a car parked in front of the house, with the occupant clearly reading the For Sale sign, writing in a notebook, then talking a cell phone. I figure either that was a realtor checking it out, or someone who got the new listing this morning checking it out. Either way, I hope that means someone will be coming to look soon. Buying it soon would be nice too, but it won't sell if nobody looks. |
